The Sock It to Me “Behind the Scenes” Series: Take 4

Introducing one of the newest members to our amazing team – Tyson!  So far, Tyson’s proven to be an invaluable asset to our possé (hence his uber-important job titles!).

Name: Tyson

Position at SITM : Vice President in charge of Top Secret Warehouse Operations and Head Researcher for the Department of Animal Doodles

Years at SITM : Working on my First

Favorite pair of SITM socks : Multi Color Man Bolt

Tell us a bit about yourself in less than 120 words:

Kick it in the Recording Studio.
Have a 48 Hour Simpsons Marathon WITH audio commentaries.
Hang on the beach scouting UFO’s, waxing parapsychology, and wondering about the legitimacy of an Inter Dimensional Bigfoot theory.
Sometimes I do all those things at once.

What were you doing before you started working at Sock It to Me? Odd Jobbing, Road Tripping.
Did 5,000 + miles from KY to OR with my fiance’ and puppy dog. We hit Roswell, The Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, The Grand Canyon, Arches National Park, and more.. ..but basically this is just a fancy way to say we were living in a van. : )

One food item you could not live without : MEAT!

Where are you going when the zombie apocalypse happens? You know, I’m not sure where I’ll be holding up – but wherever it is, I’m considering digging a moat….. and filling it with lava.

What sock do you with Sock It to Me had? Sasquatch DJ

Open House + Voting Party

Last Friday, we held our first in-house voting party (and open house) for our famed Design-A-Sock Contest. Now even though we’ve been doing this since 2007, this particular contest rocked our world. So it only made sense to throw a party.

In the span of ten days, we saw tons of winner-worthy designs come through our inbox, making it extremely difficult to narrow the 2,000 or so submissions down to just 50 designs. When we finally did, we plastered those top 50 on a wall, brought in hundreds of dollars’ worth of catered bites, beer and wine, and then invited Portland’s coolest of cool – including spray-paint artist and DJ Matt Stanger – to join us for one hoppin’ shindig.

It was a hit. To say the least. Check out these photos taken by our friend, Todd. And make sure to vote on Facebook, if you haven’t already. We’ll announce the winners tomorrow by 10am!

Giving people money and prizes!!

This will probably be the last of the Design a Sock Contest entries for 2009.  I just wanted to post these goofy pictures we took when the contest winners came into get their prizes and money, to show you that real people really won this contest.  Sometimes you see a contest on the back of a bag of chips and the prizes are things like cars, and trips to the Bahamas.  Do people actually win those?  I’ve never seen or heard anything about the winners and it makes you wonder if they are really out there.  No need to wonder here, because here are the pictures to show you.

1st Place Winner, Jason Dyl gets $500 cash money!

Thank you all for your submissions, we had a great turn out Portland!  Sorry we weren’t able to respond to each artist personally, we just had too many entries, and not enough staff.  As always, keep your ideas coming, because even though the special contest isn’t running, we’re always accepting ideas.  Yay for socks and cash and prizes!!

Homework…..

I kinda feel like updating this blog is like homework.  I know I should do it and I know I planned to do it, but I’m always finding myself putting it off.  I mean its fun when I actually have something I want to share, but when I put the parameters on myself to write weekly I find myself dreading the task because I don’t know what to write about.  Well…here is something I can share, I just learned about this cool time lapse recording feature on my camera (Thanks Garrett) and think it will be fun to share stuff via short video clips.  I tried it out last week when sending out some socks to Journeys.  They are my biggest client and when they order they don’t mess around!  This last order was 119 boxes which equals over 20,000 pairs of socks!  That’s me in the video huffing the boxes with Kisa onto the truck.  Bon voyage socks! Have a safe trip!  (Since I was just getting used to this function, video comes in two parts.)………………a half hour later……..o.k. guys, this is going to have to be put on hold since I can’t seem to figure out how to get the video up.  This post will be updated soon, once I get Amber’s tech brain on it.  Check back soon.  Thanks guys and gals!  Happy Monday.
