Jazmine Granger

Name: Jazmine Granger
Age: 15
Location: Portand, Oregon
Occupation: Student

Jazmine Granger isn’t your typical high-school student. Not only does she do the daily school-day grind, she also designs her own jewelry, volunteers at rescues for dogs with challenging medical and physical issues, and also contributes her time and spirit to Camp Attitude, where she gets to hang out with other disabled kids and do tons of fun activities!

Some girls might think that doing their homework is enough, but not Jazmine! Not only does she make her grades, she also makes her own jewelry and has a page to sell her wares. www.etsy.com/shop/jsgdesign Jazmine’s mom helps her out by ordering the supplies she needs and listening to her directions. They feature super-cool items like antique keys and monocles!

Beyond her artistic designs for baubles, Jazmine gives her heart and her time to more than one cause. At the dog rescues, she’s able to compassionately and patiently help the pups have happy lives.

“The dogs in at Panda Paws and Angels with Misplaced Wings are just like me, they are disabled. I use a wheelchair and have a lot of medical stuff and so do these dogs,” she explains. “It costs a lot to take care of sick dogs. I first got started by meeting London after seeing his story on the news. Mom took me to meet him and we are now friends for life. His wheelchair is red just like mine too.”

When it comes to volunteering anywhere, Jazmine has some savvy advice for girls looking to give their time.

“Call and find out more. What kind of things do they need? It can be easy, like a dog shelter needs a lot of towels for bathing the dogs. If you notice your Grandma has new bath towels, maybe take the older ones to the shelter if they are in good shape,” she suggests. “That was something I saw my mom do when we got new towels. We’ve also made a lot of new friends that are also interested in animal charity work, so finding people who share your goal is good because it will help you be more successful. Like, last year we got to have our birthday party at MotoCorsa. They are also big supporters of Panda Paws and were really excited to be part of our event.”

Beyond her furry friends, she also attends Camp Attitude in the summers, where she’s not the only disabled teenager trying to have a good time. Every camper is just like her!

“We ride horses, go fishing, swim, and even spend a day at the lake on speedboats and jet skis. It’s free for us to go for the week, so we’re making a lot of jewelry for the camp to sell as a fundraiser over the summer in their store called the Smiley Shack,” she gushes. “Camp is better than any other place on earth ‘cause we’re all able to do everything no matter what.”

As for her time before her summer vacation, Jazmine has plenty going on, including finishing up her school year, more difficult physical work in therapy, and even some fun stuff…like listening to 30 Seconds To Mars and going to prom!

For her fiercely rad jewelry making, cool camp contributions, and help with dogs who could use a loving hand, we think Jazmine Granger is a super Cool Girl!
