A {Mother’s Day} Gift Guide by Sock It to Me
Not to brag or anything, but we know that our socks make the best gifts. They just do. Honestly, who doesn’t like a nice new pair of knee-highs to add to their wardrobe? Can’t go wrong!
Well, even if that is true, we think our friends and family might be getting a little used to receiving socks for every single birthday, holiday and celebration. (We cut it off at wedding. Just doesn’t seem right!) So, we went to our fave local and online shops (places that sell Sock It to Me socks, of course) to scout out some good gifting options for momma this Mother’s Day (May 9th this year, FYI). Of course, socks are a good option, too. Just sayin.
LOCALLY FOUND (in PDX):
Presents of Mind > Diaper bag by Petunia Pickle Botton, $167.00 |
So it’s a bit pricey. But a good diaper bag versus a bad diaper bag is like day and night, or like clutter and clutch! We love this one for its pretty petal print, hands-free backpack option and built-in changing station with detachable changing pad! A good gift for your BMFF (Best Mom Friend Forever).
Frock > Enamel ring by Ollipop, $34.00 |
When we buy for mom, we try to keep her young and hip while still being age-appropriate (because nothing is more embarrassing than when she dresses too young for her age!). Well, this bright enamel ring by Ollipop is exactly the ticket – it looks vintage, but it’s not! In fact, it’s so chic, we may even have to borrow it from time to time…
New Seasons market > Green & Black organic chocolate bar (Maya Gold, 3.5 oz.), $3.99 |
If your momma is like our momma, nothing – and we mean nothing – makes her happier than a bar of good chocolate, like this Maya Gold bar by Green & Black. Made with 55% raw cacao, this organic delight is bittersweet and well-balanced with a perfect mix of cinnamon and orange zest. Yum!
Powell’s Books > A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table by Molly Wizenberg, $10.50 |
If you mum loved Julie & Julia (who didn’t?!), then she’ll love this one for its web of recipes weaved in among enjoyable beyond-the-kitchen storytelling of love and travels and a respect for fresh ingredients.
BEYOND PDX:
Buy Olympia > “I Heart Public Transportation” mug, $12 |
It’s come to the point where Mom will do almost anything to eliminate her carbon footprint (major kudos to her!) Well, not only does this mug promote earth-keeping public transport, it’s made with 100% corn, which means it is fully compostable! Plus, it’s stinkin adorable. And funny. Can’t beat that!
Modcloth > Nestle Close Pillow, $24.99 |
This is your chance to help mom modernize her nest, without saying her style stinks. Adding colorful throw pillows to an outdated sofa set can make a world of difference. Plus, it opens the door to discuss other, uh, improvements to her 1970s décor. You’ll thank us later, we know.
Dream in Plastic > Vinyl Lace Placemats, $1.49 ea. |
Mom will be shocked to know these pretty placemats are actually – gasp! – vinyl. In black, white or bright (teal, pink, orange and lime), these babies will keep her precious pine in good shape, while transforming a boring breakfast nook into something straight out of a magazine.
Fred Flare > #1 Mom Trophy, $14 |
We are not above goofy. Let Mom know she’s the best thing since sliced cheese with a gold, mantle-worthy trophy measuring seven inches high. Taking bets now on whether she’ll gag or giggle when she sees her gift…
I have been reading out some of your articles and i must say nice stuff. I will surely bookmark your weblog.
