Fall’s Well That Ends Well

You might see “Back to School” signs hanging in stores and shudder. This is the end of summer. There were more hikes to be hiked, rivers to be paddled, and patios to be lounged upon!

But the end of summer is not something to be mourned. Instead, early fall is an opportunity for forging new paths, exploring your creative side, and indulging small comforts. This is what inspired our new fall sock release.

Get Extra Curricular

We always loved going back to school. That new pencil smell, brand new binders, a fresh new start to a new year. It was a clean slate and everything was possible.

School isn’t the end of summer, it’s an exciting new beginning! You’re not going to be the same person by the end of the year.  Walk into it confidently knowing this campus is yours, and this knowledge is yours to be had. These amazing women are taking on the campus in STRETCH-IT Launch From Earth, Horsehead Nebula, and Women’s One Giant Leap.

Three women on stone steps with books in Sock It to Me socks: wide calf Launch From Earth, knee high Horsehead Nebula, and One Giant Leap crew socks.

If you aren’t headed back to a classroom this fall, the world is full of opportunities to quench your thirst for knowledge. The more you feed your curiosity, the hungrier it gets. The more you learn about the world around you, the more you know about yourself and can share it with the world!

The subject matter of our socks & underwear, how best to present it to you, even the technology to create the best-fitting and longest-lasting clothing—all of this requires learning. It’s not just on the job either, our love for knowledge goes with us everywhere (as you might have read in our Geek Pride Day blogs). And it really shows in our new fall socks: Space Craft, STRETCH-IT Joining Elements, and Cleo-catra!

Let Your Inquisitive Nature Run Wild

Adventure doesn’t stick to one season. Summer has no claim to spontaneity or once-in-a-lifetimes experiences. So, are you going to let a little drizzle get in your way? No. You’re a hardcore! You’re wild! Puddles were made to be splashed in. Paths are waiting to be made.

Three women hiking through the woods in Sock It to Me socks: Well-Quailified knee highs, Darling Starling knee highs, Encyclopedia Botanica knee highs.

We find that our creative energy gets recharged when we allow ourselves to wander through the woods, no matter the weather. Something about the untamed wild helps us get inspired by exploring the outer reaches of our imaginations. The new paths we create outside help us create new connections in our brain. Our new fall line was inspired by this and you can see the natural connection in Well-Quailified, Darling Starlings, and Encyclopedia Botanica.

Creature Comforts in the Fall

The best part of finishing a rainy hike, is getting comfy again. Getting into warm, dry clothes? Check!  Slurping on something warm? Check!  Grabbing beers with your hiking buddies? Check!

Even if you love fall hikes, watching the days get shorter can be tough. Goodbye seemingly endless days of summer sun, welcoming us outside like a warm hug! Now that warm hug can be rich, steamy coffee. Catch up over coffee dates with friends you haven’t seen for weeks. Maybe they’ve been busy traveling. Maybe you’ve been busy camping. Now you can both breathe for a minute and relax in Coffee Break.

Whether it’s kids socks for back to school, crew socks to adventure in, or knee highs to indulge your comforts, embrace the season and be yourself.

And let’s not forget, with summer ending, that means Halloween is right around the corner!

Fall 2017 Styles

Sock It to Me’s Fall Favorites!

September 5th already!  Where did the summer go?!  We’re sad to leave behind the warm weather, sunny days (well, a few sunny days here in Portland anyway), and tan lines, but we can’t help but be a little excited about Fall!  In honor of our favorite time of the year – when we can finally break out those toasty socks again – we decided to round up a few of our favorite things that have us eagerly looking forward to pumpkin patches, colorful leaves, and cozy sweaters!

Favorite Fall Dessert:

Of course we had to start with food, right?  Not that we don’t enjoy food year-round, but there’s just something about the cooler air that makes warm beverages and tasty treats just a little bit sweeter.  Brought to you by Dorie Goodspan, the author of Baking: From My Home to Yours, one of our favorite Fall desserts is Brown Sugar-Apple Cheesecake.  Mmmm – if you could taste Fall, we’re sure it would taste a little something like this!

You can check out the recipe here, courtesy of Good Eats Blog: http://www.goodeatsblog.com/2008/02/twd-brown-sugar-apple-cheesecake.html

Favorite Fall Festival:

It might be a little bit of a trek from Portland, but the 3 hour drive to Florence’s Chowder, Blues & Brews Festival is definitely worth it!  A flurry of visitors join this small, coastal town in October for a chance to listen to fine blues musicians while voting for their favorite local chef in the Oregon Coast Professional Chowder Cook-Off and washing it all down with beers from Oregon’s best microbreweries.  Music, food, AND beer – not too hard to guess why we look forward to this festival every year!

Favorite Fall (above the legs!) Accessory:

It’s pretty obvious that we love to accessorize around here (especially with crazy socks!), but we can’t forget about all of the other great ways to jazz up a Fall outfit either.  One of our favorite scarves right now is Threadless’ adorable “Reversed Precipitation” scarf!  (And you thought we got enough of the rain living in Portland!)  Subtle but funky enough for our style – we can’t wait to sport this scarf soon!

Favorite Fall Activity:

One of our favorite things to do once the temperatures ease off a bit is hiking.  Good thing there are plenty of trails around!  So grab a pair of your comfy Sock It to Me’s and your favorite hiking boots and hit the road!  One of our personal favorites is Silver Star Mountain with its breathtaking views.

If you’re in the area, Portland Hikers posts a great guide to the best trails & views: http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org/wiki/Must_See_Hikes

What about you, Sock It to Me fans?  Let us know what has you jumping at the sight of the temperature dropping and the pumpkin patches appearing on roadsides?!

Seven Looks in Seven Days – Day 4

Do you ever have those guilty Saturdays where you drink a whole pot of coffee in the a.m., eat cake at noon, and then settle in front of the tube for a lazy afternoon of hopeless girly flicks? Yep, that’s my Saturday. It is fantastic.

I don’t care who you are; you have to love The Devil Wears Prada. All of that fashion; all of those outfits! It’s just so… delicious. Plus, Anne Hathaway is adorable, and Meryl Streep does a bang-up job playing an Anna Wintour-like fashion icon with an attitude. It is all too reminiscent of my NYC days when I worked the bottom rung as intern in the magazine world, alongside top fashion mags like Vogue and GQ. It was exciting then. But I have to tell you, I am so glad that I chose Portland over Manhattan. I mean, backyard photo shoots with your friends are so much more gratifying than high-stress shoots in the city. Plus, I love my job, and my boss rocks. From what I understand, that’s pretty rare out there in the rat race.

The thing that bothers me most is that fashion is supposed to be fun. We love that our customers send us photos where they are wearing Sock It to Me socks with sneakers and puffers (like Carrie, below). No matter how you choose to wear your socks, it’s all about your individual style.  Whether that’s a cozy, everyday style or a super-chic look with pumps and a mini, it’s all good. Because it’s all you. So thank you, again, for sending us snaps. Keep ’em coming, please!

Look #4: Hurley sweatshirt dress + tights + speckled grey leg warmers + arm warmers + Nebraska vest

I really like the combination of elements here. If you look closely, you can see Carrie’s precious striped flats. They make a good add to a playful outfit like this.  Rocko agrees.
