Thanksgiving Feast!

Our bellies are still full from all of the mounds of food we consumed yesterday, but we thought we’d wake up from our food comas long enough to share our favorite holiday recipes from yesterday!

Matt‘s pretty easy to please on Thanksgiving.  No need to slave away in the kitchen for hours; just hand him a bottle of his favorite wine and he’s a happy camper!

Amber‘s a mashed potato fanatic.  Check out this great recipe from Paula Deen for loaded mashed potatoes: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/loaded-mashed-potatoes-recipe/index.html. (Minus the bacon – hubby’s request!)

Alicia‘s favorite dish – Chocolate Banana Bread! Try out this recipe: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/chocolate-banana-bread/. Little tip from the baker – add some coconut for a little extra flavor!

Kisa‘s all about the gravy.  Put a little butter into the pan, add flour, pepper and thyme, then slowly stir in the turkey dripping until you get a thick, golden gravy.  Mmmmm!

Jacob sticks with the oldies but goodies – delicious pumpkin pie!

And Carrie‘s favorite dish – good ol’ green bean casserole!

What about you all?  What are your favorite holiday recipes?! We hope everyone had a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM SOCK IT TO ME!

Portland DSC 3rd Place Winner: Chris!

Now presenting this year’s 3rd place winner in the Portland Design-a-Sock Contest – with his awesome “Shiver Me Limbers” sock – Chris!

Name: Chris Hubbard

Age: 30

Occupation: Chef, tattoo artist, & currently attending Le Cordon Blue in downtown Portland

Design History: I started drawing when I got outta high school and wanted to become a tattoo artist after getting my first sleeve done. I have done design work for video games, bands’ merchandise, and up and coming restaurants and other businesses alike.

How did you come up with your winning design? I came up with the design while sitting in my Foundations 1 class at school…I listened…passed with an A. It’s so weird that I didn’t even look at last years winner but I came up with the ship basically so I could do the waves…I like drawing waves.

How long did it take you to create it? It took me about 2 hours to pencil and then color trying not to shade it but block blend to try and fit the rules, was kinda difficult to simplify all the designs I did.

How many designs did you enter into this particular contest? I entered 3 this time – 2 of which were entered in the top 30. I saw the ad in the Mercury and then grabbed like 6 of them and started drawing thinking of ideas all the time and still have some designs I did that I didn’t send in.

Did you have the design in mind before the contest ever started or were you motivated to enter once you saw the contest posted on Facebook? Motivated to enter when I saw the contest posted. I didn’t know the contest existed!

Have you ever entered a Sock It to Me Design-a-Sock Contest before? no

Do you plan on entering another Sock It to Me Design-a-Sock Contest? This was my first time seeing this competition but I will be doing it again for sure…apparently I have the style your/there looking for so I will definitely be entering again…lots of fun can’t believe people do this for a living..I may need to change careers 🙂

What are your other favorite Sock It to Me styles? I love any style of the socks. I am wearing the mustard yellow and black mustache socks that I picked out for winning!

How many pairs of Sock It to Me’s do you own? I own 7 pairs of Sock It To Me socks as of now…I may not buy any more Sock It to Me socks..specially cuz now I can win them! ha…Thank you guys so much, you paid some of my bills!

Portland DSC 2nd Place Winner: Yvonne!

Now presenting this year’s 2nd place winner in the Portland Design-a-Sock Contest – with her eye-catching rendition of the “Peacock” sock – Yvonne!

Name: Yvonne Ng

Age: 34

Occupation: Architectural Designer

Design History: I work in the field of Architecture and Interior Design, so I do consider myself a designer, of buildings and places. I also have an undergraduate degree in Studio Art (drawing and painting), so art and design have always been a part of my life. I love sketching, drawing, watercolor – the process of working out my thoughts and ideas by putting a pencil to paper.

How did you come up with your winning design? What was the motivation behind it? Honestly, I think the idea came to me in my sleep. I had been brainstorming ideas all week before the competition deadline, coming up with a long list of possibilities, and one morning I woke up, and a very clear image was in my head, and said, “That’s it – a peacock!” So I drew it out.

How long did it take you to create it? The deadline was Friday 5pm, and I created it the morning of.

How many designs did you enter into this particular contest? 5 total. It’s funny, I spent all week making several other entries, messing with the designs, trying to make them better, trying to come up with new ideas, and then at the last minute the peacock idea came to me and I knew it was going to be my best entry.

Did you have the design in mind before the contest ever started or were you motivated to enter once you saw the contest posted on Facebook? Motivated to enter when I saw the contest posted. I didn’t know the contest existed!

Have you ever entered a Sock It to Me Design-a-Sock Contest before? no

Do you plan on entering another Sock It to Me Design-a-Sock Contest? sure!

What are your other favorite Sock It to Me styles? I am always drawn to the Bird on a Wire sock every time I see it. And the Mushrooms. And Jellyfish. And Umbrellas. Really, all of them.

How many pairs of Sock It to Me’s do you own? I knew this question would come up! I don’t actually own any pairs. I’ve been the poor student ever since I moved to Oregon for graduate school, so I always admired them in stores, making a mental list of which ones I would get once I had a job. (I have actually purchased several pairs, but they were all for gifts.) I graduated in June 2012, and as of this week have a full-time job, so now I can buy lots of Sock It to Me’s! What’s even better is that I get free socks for winning!! Yay!
